The Opportunity
We are seeking an entry-level Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineer to join our growing team. You will assist senior engineers in developing and implementing AI/ML solutions. This role provides excellent opportunities to learn and contribute to real-world projects. Responsibilities include data preprocessing, model training, building API’s, and data pipelines. Ideal candidates possess a strong foundation in relevant programming languages and machine learning concepts.
Within defined guidelines and framework, engaged in all phases of the data management and machine learning lifecycles to include requirement analysis, collection, processing, statistical analysis of data, monitoring of model performance, and adherence to related risk requirements. Develops and maintains technical systems that use machine learning models to make predictions used for classification and/or decision making.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, or Phoenix, AZ. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
- Participates in onboarding program to become familiarized with tool, technologies, and development processes.
- Works with cross-functional team to contribute to machine learning projects throughout the machine learning lifecycle to include analysis, solution design, data pipeline engineering, testing, deployment, scheduling, production support, API development, and application integration in support of GenAI applications, ML frameworks/libraires, and ML models.
- Leverage understanding of models and collaborate with Data Scientists to refactor the code into IT maintainable solutions that follows best practices and meets appropriate coding standards.
- Executes tests scripts and may begin to deploy machine learning pipeline code with assistance from senior team members.
- Monitors the execution of machine learning pipelines in the production environment. May begin to troubleshoot and return failures to service. Escalates failures through proper channels to ensure timely resolution.
- Configure, manage, and set up AI/ML infrastructure components in cloud/on-prem environments for projects and the AI/ML community stakeholders. This includes AWS, GCP, graph databases.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Up to 2 years of machine learning engineering, data engineering, or software development experience implementing data solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Programming skills using Python, R, Java, etc.
- Basic understanding of data engineering concepts
- Familiarity with industry standard machine learning related libraries such as pandas, numPy, sci-kit learn, etc.
- Basic understanding of statistical and predictive modeling approaches and machine learning concepts
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
- Basic knowledge of cloud fundamentals on at least one platform e.g., AWS or GCP.

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $67,220-$128,480.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
