Field General Adjuster (Charlotte, NC)

Purpose of Job

We are currently seeking a talented Field General Adjuster for the Charlotte, NC Area

Provides PROPERTY claims service face-to-face directly with members and third- party customers in the field. Investigates, evaluates, negotiates and adjusts complex property claims presented by or against our insured to confirm coverage, determine legal liability and equitability settle/defend in compliance with all state regulatory requirements. Completes work assignments and resolves problems independently. Recognizes life events, understands member's needs and provides advice in order to deliver appropriate solutions to members. Current insurance adjuster’s license or ability to obtain within a designated number of attempts (if applicable).

Job Requirements

  • Adjusts complex property claims. Severity of claims includes structure claims involving high dollar value and severity, personal property streamlined settlements, Section II liability claims involving moderate to high severity physical damage, Additional Living Expense (ALE) claims involving high dollar value, and contamination claims.
  • Acquires and applies expert knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, and processes to include P&C insurance policy contracts and coverage, and USAA claim handling process and procedures.
  • Serves as a resource to less experienced team members on escalated issues of a unique nature.
  • Partners with, directs and/or re-inspects vendors and internal business partners to facilitate quality control and/or claims resolution.
  • Contribute to business goals, performance metrics, and effectively uses tools & technology.
  • Supports workload surges and/or Catastrophe operations as needed to include working significant overtime during designated CATs.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 4+ years property claims field adjusting experience handling moderate to complex dwelling claims
  • Ability to acquire and maintain required licenses
  • Advanced knowledge of residential construction  
  • Advanced knowledge of Xactimate and Xactanalysis
  • Strong negotiation, investigation and communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of property insurance policies and endorsements
  • Ability to travel and/or work catastrophe duty when needed


  • 6+ years of property claims adjusting experience
  • 6+ years of experience handling dwelling claims
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • CPCU Designation
  • Current insurance adjuster’s license
  • Large Loss claim handling experience
  • Ability to travel at a moment's notice
  • Ability to traverse difficult loss locations
  • Demonstrated ability to show professionalism and empathy in Member Relations

Physical Demand Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds to include lifting a ladder in and out of the trunk of a car.
  • Ability to climb ladders and traverse roofs, this includes the ability to work at heights while inspecting roofs and attics.
  • Ability to crouch and stoop to inspect confined attic spaces and go beneath homes into crawl spaces.
  • Meet all USAA safe driving requirements including verification of driving record through MVR & possession of valid driver’s license.
