Product Design Executive

Purpose of Job

The Product Design Executive will be accountable for developing new product solutions into a member-led and member-centric design considering the entire value chain. This key leadership role will be accountable for developing next generation products and services that leverage new technology and data sources that serve member needs. He/she will work closely with the legacy product management and state management teams to launch and expand coverage to new territories in support of the product and state management strategies. This role uses market and member insight to continually sharpen focus on member needs and ensure significant market differentiation, consistent with USAA strategy, is achieved. Utilizing agile methods, this leader will develop value propositions that translate to the delivery of compelling member value and drives competitive advantage and sustainable growth.

Job Requirements

  • Plans and directs product development design efforts in areas of new products and services, research, and market analysis 
  • Accountable for ensuring significant market differentiation, consistent with USAA strategy, is achieved
  • Partner to set, manage and adhere to the Product Development & Innovation budget
  • Leverage technology, data, and digital analysis to inform early stage opportunity assessments and the development of a transformative strategy
  • Work with product strategy, innovation and execution teams to jointly set the agenda and help USAA improve its new product development cycles by informing and informed by the rapid test and learn cycles
  • Create a repeatable and adaptable insurance product design methodology
  • Identify new and improved ways to manage the development process, as new platforms and technologies emerge
  • Work with legal and state management teams to test, develop and launch new products
  • Lead the insurance product design and development function
  • Partner with and/or influence Digital, IT, Data, Design, Experience, Innovation and P&L Business Leader


  • Bachelor’s Degree OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • 10 or more years of applicable business experience or 8 years of applicable experience with a Master’s Degree
  • 4 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams
  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals
  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations, industry practices and emerging trends
  • Direct experience designing an insurance product or applicable product management experience. 
  • Demonstrated responsibility driving market differentiation, leading a design led approach, delivering customer value, and leveraging market and customer insights.
  • Proven experience leading change and driving innovation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of rapid prototyping and experience using a design led approach to create improved and new capabilities.


  • Expert knowledge of auto insurance product design and development (telematics, new class plan, etc.)
  • Experience with cross channel product design interaction and problem solving.
  • Inspiring, open minded, hard-working, collaborative, and passionate personality
  • Understands the full breadth of insurance product design from rate plan and risk selection to loss cost control
