Storage Engineer - Mid Level

Purpose of Job

We are seeking a talented Storage Engineer for our San Antonio, TX – Vista Corporate Center facility.

Acquires and applies broad knowledge of the business, its products, and processes. Collaborates and contributes to influencing operational areas to ensure integration, design and service requirements for storage are being met. Manages the planning, implementation, administration, monitoring and maintenance needs for the storage infrastructure, including primary storage targets, tape, backup & recovery, high availability and disaster recovery. Troubleshoots all storage related issues and takes appropriate action. Resolves issues and navigates obstacles to deliver work product. Serves as a resource to less experienced team members on escalated issues of a routine nature.

USAA Information Technology: A Realistic Preview


Consistently applies storage management knowledge to design, test, implement and support system infrastructure. Monitor, manage storage volumes and provision complex storage requests based on business needs. Configures complex storage requirements to meet the needs of the user and to support high availability failover solutions. Gathers storage requirements, designs solutions and implements based on customer or applications  requirements. Participate and identifies process or technical improvements.


  • Bachelor Degree Required or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 4 or more years of relevant business support and/or IT related work experience.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude with previous work experience, software and hardware platforms, tools and methodologies, skills in complex problem determination.
  • Experience performing system administration or systems programming skills in the relevant domain.


  • Experience with NetApp OnTap cDOT 9.x
    • SVM creation
    • LIF management
    • Aggregate and volume management
    • NetApp quota management
    • Managing hardware and software data encryption
  • Experience with NetApp MetroCluster
  • Demonstrated experience with managing snapshots and snapmirrors
  • Demonstrated experience with managing snaplock and snapvault
  • In-depth knowledge of CIFS, SMB, NFS (Including v4.x)
  • Knowledge of Flex Fabric
  • Knowledge of NetApp Private Storage
  • Experience with Object storage (S3, REST)
  • Experience with Cloud storage offerings (AWS, Azure, IBM)
  • Knowledge of storage management in the Cloud
