The Opportunity

As a dedicated Advice Director, you will serve as the advice expert for a specific subject area, and has primary responsibility for the development of USAA's point-of-view on that subject (e.g. major life events and other critical topics that impact members). This role is the lead creator of compelling points-of-view that inform the development of relevant and actionable USAA advice and recommendations imbedded in member experience designs, messaging and other interactions, across tools and channels. The position provides technical validation of advice messaging and engages additional expertise where required to ensure completeness of USAA's point-of-view. It also leads the development of scenarios that model the impact of advice recommendations on member financial security.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Uses internal and external research to understand member needs for advice with respect to the specific subject area, to include identifying the need for differentiated advice by member group.
  • Develops, coordinates and maintains USAA's advice point-of-view, on a specific subject, to support identified member needs.
  • Coordinates with lines of businesses and other internal partners to ensure alignment of points-of-view.
  • Collaborates within a matrixed environment to ensure availability of USAA's point-of-view to members and employees through appropriate channels.
  • Monitors current relevant member insights, competitive intelligence, industry and economic outlooks/trends, as well as regulatory and legislative issues.
  • Assesses impacts of these insights, trends and issues as they pertain to our points-of-view, and leads the appropriate updates of USAA's points-of-view and scenarios.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 or more years of experience specific to property and casualty, life and health insurance, retirement and estate planning, investments,  and/or related experience gained through military service.

What sets you apart:

  • Certified Financial Planner ® Designation
  • 5 or more years of experience in financial planning, financial advising or a similar role
  • Expert knowledge of content strategy & Search engine optimization best practices
  • Content creation experience – longform article and/or video script writing
  • Experience in presentations; including public relations (podcast, radio, speaking events, Media events)
  • 2 or more years of experience in product management and/or experience owner experience
  • Marketing campaign experience (creative or strategy)
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $109,130 - $208,580.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
