We’re honored to salute one of USAA’s finest. Marine Corps veteran Maverick P. joined us in 2014 after his military service had ended. He was drawn to USAA for the opportunity to seamlessly transition from serving his country to supporting the military community in a new capacity.

“As a Marine, I experienced firsthand the value of being a USAA member. Now I have the privilege of using that experience to develop digital products and services that make a meaningful difference in the lives of the military community,” Maverick shares.

The passion that fueled Maverick’s military service now supports our members with honesty, integrity, and creativity.  In his spare time, he enjoys pursuing his creative passions through his art. He also enjoys rooting on his beloved San Antonio Spurs.

Q&A with Maverick

What is your origin story (What did you do before coming to USAA, how did you end up here and what do you do now)?

“I served in the Marines and moved back home to North Miami. I had a lot more developing to do and wanted to go somewhere with opportunity for upward mobility. I chose San Antonio (the home of my favorite NBA team). I moved here with two bags and a backpack, having never been here, and without a job. Soon, a phone call to discuss my bill became an invite to apply.”

Do you think your military experience has helped you in your role at USAA? If so, how?

“Absolutely! As a Marine, I got to live the experience of our members and can relate better to them. I not only tap back into my experience, I learn about the experiences from those who have served before me and are serving now to help create better experiences.”

What do you like about working for USAA?

“The great leaders that I’ve been fortunate to work with who have contributed immensely to my development. Their support enables me to be more empowered and focused on the mission.”
 
Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years?

“Continuing to contribute to empowering our members on our digital platforms.”
 
Have you seen our mission come to life? If so, how?

“Many times. From the emphasis we put into volunteering in our communities to our development as employees and how we always bring it back to how this benefits our members.”
