Lekayshia’s Journey at USAA and Beyond

We’re excited to shine a spotlight on one of the rising stars here at USAA. Lekayshia joined our deposit services team in October 2021. Since then, she has spent time in our survivor relations department and currently serves as a Bank Facilitator on rotation. She has many responsibilities and takes pride in each of them, especially being the first friendly face to welcome new hires.

Despite having already accomplished plenty in her short time here, Lekayshia is just scratching the surface of her potential. She believes in speaking her mind and standing up for what she believes in. She looks forward to a future helping new hires, serving customers, personal and professional growth, and adding many more accolades to her already impressive resume.

Outside of the office, Lekayshia is a proud mother of a beautiful baby girl and guardian of her teenage brother. After her time on active duty, she continues to proudly serve in the United States Army Reserve as an E-4 Specialist with eight years and counting. With her sights set on joining our HR department, she recently returned to school to pursue her bachelor’s degree in business administration: Human Resource Management.

Hear from Lekayshia

Between her time as an active Army Reserve member and all the great things she’s doing with us at USAA, Lekayshia knows what it means to serve. Since joining us, she has rapidly proven herself to be a rising star who’s “excited to continue my career at USAA for the vast amount of opportunity.”

When not serving with us or the Army, Lekayshia loves pushing herself physically with CrossFit and HIIT training. Her motto is, “Stay ready so you don't have to get ready." Lekayshia is very thankful to be part of the USAA community and will continue to turn heads with her outstanding work, passionate attitude, and desire to never stop improving.

We are proud to be a place where the military community can build a career after their military service has ended.

Q&A with Lekayshia

What do you like about working at USAA?

"My first leader at USAA encouraged me to take advantage of the education assistance program. The process to start using the benefit was very simple and easy – Passing with A or B, Ed Assist takes care of everything. $5,000 a semester covered by USAA. You don’t just have use Ed Assist to gain skills to help you in your current role or even just better at USAA. You can use it to meet your own personal goals and dreams. You can use it towards certifications as well."

"Coming into the office after being remote was intimidating, but being in the office is something I love and now prefer it. USAA is very flexible with letting you be where you need to be. If something comes up, you’re taken care of. PTO, flexibility, etc. is paramount. When you’re here, be here…when you’re not here, focus on your family and do not do work. What other company does that?"

"Culture is what I love most about working here. The culture here values the employees. Employees are not just seen as numbers, but as members too."

How did your experiences in the service or skills you learned prepare you for your career here at USAA?

"Using leadership training from the military every day in my job at USAA. There’s a close correlation to rank structure in the military to how we function at USAA."

Have you seen our mission come to life? If so, how?

"I was in a bad wreck last year; it was traumatizing. I had never had a wreck or even a ticket before. It was intimidating but USAA took care of everything. I didn’t have to follow up with USAA, USAA contacted me for all next steps and took complete care of me. I was able to be a member and not an employee, and witnessed first hand how we take care of our members."

Service is the heart of our mission
