The Opportunity
As a dedicated Consumer Reporting Specialist I, you will be responsible for responding to and validating credit bureau reporting for members. Research credit reporting issues utilizing applicable tools to perform a quality assessment and provide resolution in a timely manner and with superior customer experience.
This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.
What you'll do:
- Research moderately complex member credit report inquires for all types of banking products utilizing a variety of credit bureau reporting tools such as websites, e-Oscar website, and systems.
- Perform validation of the credit bureau reporting and monitors the quality of reporting and provides dispute resolution.
- Leverage developing business and analytical knowledge to identify innovative solutions to improve the consumer reporting processes, procedure, and/or strategy deficiencies.
- Assist with risk analysis to identify emerging trends and partners with strategy teams to develop countermeasures to identify, detect, and prevent potential risks.
- Identify trends and recommend solutions to improve the effectiveness or efficiency of the consumer reporting process.
- Serve as a resource to team members on escalated issues and shares knowledge with team members.
- May research, resolve, and provide timely responses to complex requests that require Litigation/Legal review.
- May analyze complex credit bureau disputes and perform quality assurance assessments on completed disputes to ensure they were resolved accurately and within guidelines of banking and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
- 2 years of experience in credit bureau reporting or experience in servicing bank products such as credit cards or consumer loans.
- Experience in payment history, payment extensions and reversals, bankruptcy, SCRA, repossession, collections, assumptions, etc.
- Multi-product banking industry experience (credit card, consumer lending, and home equity)
- Advanced knowledge of FCRA, FCBA, and FDCPA regulations.
- Banking system experience (ALS, FDR, and Portal).
- Advanced knowledge of credit bureau dispute process.
- Knowledge of federal laws, rules, and regulations to include: FCRA, FCRA 623 A&B.
What sets you apart:
- 2 years of collections and consumer reporting disputes
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience with written correspondence via Enterprise Worklist (EWL).
- Experience contacting consumer report bureaus for credit inquiry validation.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $43,690- $73,720.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
