The Opportunity

As a dedicated Lead Director Strategy, you will be responsible for leading a team and providing strategic leadership to help lead and influence a LOB/staff business area towards its next phase of profitable growth. Will lead complex internal consulting projects working collaboratively with senior level executives to make key strategic decisions in the areas of strategy development, growth strategy, organizational design, operating model, and business transformation. Will hire, develop, and manage talent and lead the development and communication of the three-year strategic plan. This role will develop and build key relationships with leaders and senior executives across the organization and influence and align the organization into action.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in the following location: Charlotte, NC.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Develop long-term vision and direction: Work directly with senior level executives to find opportunities for the organization’s future growth and success.
  • Communicate and align strategy: Effectively communicate the organization’s strategy to senior management, employees, and other partners to ensure that all levels of the organization are aligned with and working towards the same goals. Lead the facilitation of strategy offsites.
  • Lead internal consulting projects: Work directly with senior level executives to define business opportunities and structure strategic engagement plans. Leads cross-functional, matrixed teams to make recommendations and solve highly complex and high value business problems. Drive partner alignment and execution.
  • Hire, develop and lead talent: Acquire, develop and retain top strategy talent through employee selection, mentor, development and performance management activities. Direct work assignments and provides mentorship and training in strategy consulting process and structure.
  • Lead strategic planning: Play a leadership role in the development and communication of the organization’s three-year strategic plan.
  • Monitor and report on progress: Lead all aspects of processes to monitor execution of strategic initiatives. Make adjustments to the strategy as needed based on changing market conditions or other factors.
  • Risk and Compliance: Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Business, Engineering or Science subject area; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of strategy consulting, corporate or business unit strategy or relevant work experience; or an Advanced Degree in Business or STEM and 6 years strategy consulting experience, corporate or business unit strategy or relevant work experience.
  • 3 years of direct team leadership or management experience required.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and inquisitive mentality, with ability to elevate thinking and apply judgment to how components fit into the broader picture.
  • Consistent track record in project management.
  • Consistent record of leveraging experience and analysis to influence business decisions.
  • Proven track record of talent management.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Advance quantitative, analytical, and written and oral communication skills.

What sets you apart:

  • Financial Service industry experience, preferably in the Life or Annuity space.
  • Experience working with high impact and high visibility work.
  • Proven ability to manage ambiguity and work autonomously.
  • Highly analytical and critical thinker who can address problems using data.
  • Experience cultivating relationships and leading people through change.US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $164,780- $314,960.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
