The Head of Belonging and Corporate Impact is a key strategic role responsible for USAA’s purpose-driven work across the company, with our members, teammates, and communities. Responsibilities include USAA’s corporate social responsibility strategy, philanthropic grantmaking, belonging and sustainability initiatives. This key executive serves as an external brand ambassador; and in doing so, reinforces the authenticity of the USAA brand as the nation’s leading military-focused corporate citizen, military and employee advocate, and national belonging and sustainability leader.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL.

The Opportunity

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for strategy and execution of social impact, belonging and sustainability efforts to drive membership and employee trust.
  • Deep understanding of the subject matter and all facets of this work to include, complex social impact and community initiatives, external environment, leading a national foundation and philanthropic grantmaking as well as driving trust and inclusion among a diverse employee and membership base.
  • Map and understand the evolving stakeholder universe around these core areas, and lead the development of a prioritized stakeholder engagement strategy, understanding the reputational impact of this work.
  • Partner closely with communications and reputation management to advise on the company’s amplification efforts, issue response and internal/external reporting approach.
  • Partner across the organization to enhance understanding of the unique needs of the military community and help the business account for these unique needs from research to product design and business implementation.
  • Executive sponsor for USAA’s first branded social impact campaign, Face the Fight ™, that is raising awareness and reducing veteran suicide.
  • Communicate a compelling vision for belonging and impact that aligns with the organization's goals and values, inspires all to reach their full potential at USAA.
  • Strategically align the work for belonging and social impact to USAA’s business strategy, including market trends, financial data, and competitive landscapes to inform business decisions and drive revenue growth.
  • Drafts and implements social and community related policies, which may include policies to address environmental concerns and climate change, as needed, and review existing company policies for alignment with the enterprise.
  • Develops, executes, and monitors a plan for collecting, storing, validating, and distributing data and content for reporting and responding to key stakeholder requests to comply with evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for creating conditions for USAA employees to feel a strong sense of belonging and inspired to give time, talent and treasure to military and community-based causes.
  • Travels and represents USAA, and the brand’s efforts to champion the military community, at conferences, events, and governmental engagements.
  • Builds and leads a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in community engagement, external affairs, or related field OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 10 or more years of experience in community engagement, and/or public policy function with a proven track record designing and implementing enterprise-wide strategy is required.
  • 8 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high performing teams is required.
  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and managing work to achieve strategic goals.
  • Proven strategic thinker and savvy communicator.
  • Demonstrated executive-level business acumen across a variety of industries and complex topics.
  • Ability to set high standards for excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, and coach team members to deliver the same.
  • Ability to identify and manage risk. Understanding of legal, compliance and regulatory issues applicable to the financial services industry.

  • Demonstrated and measurable business accomplishments impacting the bottom line of business units and the enterprise – while shaping an organization’s brand and reputation.
  • Successes creating and driving strategies, bringing together disparate functions and creating a powerful team.
  • Proven thought leadership and recognition across critical external organizations that lead Corporate Social Responsibility, Belonging, Reputation and/or Sustainability.

What we offer:

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $257,250 - $463,050.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
