The Opportunity
As a member of the Digital Content Team, you’ll use your UX writing/content design skills to help create exceptional digital experiences for our members, potential members and member service representatives. You’ll implement project-level content strategy, using a content-first approach to create, reusable, structured content to ensure consistent messaging across platforms. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
- Works collaboratively with designated line of business, design, legal, compliance, and technology stakeholders to implement and support the project-level strategy set by a senior writer and applies writing processes needed for the creation and implementation of structured, reusable content across platforms. Leverages data, research, and problem-solving techniques to recommend and evaluate content solutions or opportunities.
- Demonstrates a general understanding of the content-first creation process advocates for use of the content-first approach and drives content alignment across platforms.
- Applies user experience writing knowledge and data to effectively present, influence, and articulate to business partners how your content strategy solutions and copy, address goals and solves member pain points. Creates quality content that may require light to moderate line editing.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of how to execute a holistic digital content experience by leveraging knowledge of human-centered design, user testing, content design principles, omnichannel content strategy, SEO best practices, video best practices, accessibility guidelines and USAA brand and style guidelines to help the business achieve goals/KPIs.
- Advocates for the end user and applies strategic thinking to solve problems and enhance a customer journey with words and messaging intent structure. Ability to interpret content audits and write for a variety of user journeys — from moderately complex experiences to simple error or text messages.
- Collaborates with fellow user experience writers across the Digital Content Team.
- Provides feedback to advance processes and tools.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 2 years of relevant experience in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment shaping content experience through user experience writing and editing from project inception to execution for multiple products, services and channels.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, compelling and conversational digital content in a matrixed environment across multiple platforms in support of product and service experiences. This includes the need to be highly organized, with the ability to work on multiple tasks at once while handling competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to complete projects with direction and the ability to recognize when to ask for additional information from subject matter experts.
- A portfolio that demonstrates experience creating content for user experiences across multiple consumer experiences and channels.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail. Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates, business partners and stakeholders.
- Knowledge in creating omnichannel messaging, video, user flows and structured content.
- Demonstrated ability to work fluently in Figma, SEM Rush, Microsoft Office Suite, and other content creation tools. Knowledge of headless Content Management Systems as it pertains to the creation and use of structured, reusable content.
- General understanding of Search Engine Optimization, accessibility best practices, human-centered design, user testing, problem-solving techniques, video best practices, content design principles, structured content and brand/style guidelines role in effective and efficient user experience content development.

- A portfolio that demonstrates experience creating strategic content for user experiences across multiple consumer experiences and channels.
- User experience writing certification is a plus.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $62,470 - $105,420.
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
