The Opportunity
The Strategic Innovation Internship lets you showcase your skills, while gaining real-life experience that’ll help you jump-start your career. Our interns deliver innovative solutions to real business challenges, while building enduring relationships in a collaborative culture with their manager and an assigned mentor.
The internship is based at USAA Corporate Headquarters in San Antonio, TX.
What you'll do:
Under direct supervision and following risk and compliance procedures and guidance, you will perform routine work assignments and problem resolution to support other team members tasks, including the following
- Collaborates with team members to identify strategic business opportunities and supports thought processes to evaluate the problem statement and possible solutions as an input to an overall recommendation to business partners.
- Co-develops presentations and recommendations to leadership and senior management to decide on and launch appropriate innovation lifecycles.
- Tests for market need and interest.
- Uses business case methodology for inclusion in project recommendations.
- Ensures execution of assigned innovation programs and that process steps are complete with appropriate documentation.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are optimally identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you need to have:
To qualify, you must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, and plan to graduate after the final day of the internship. Most of our interns participate the summer between their junior and senior years. Our 2025 internship will start on May 28, 2025 and last through August 8, 2025.
- Graduation date cannot be prior to August 8, 2025
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Effective written, communication, presentation and computer skills including proven understanding of Microsoft Office products
- Related experience or education (e.g., courses in computer science, design, business management, or similar) demonstrating proficiency and/or strong interest in innovation, product/software development, project management, and/or agile framework.
What sets you apart:
- Graduation date between August 2025 and July 2026
- Pursuing a degree with a concentration in Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field
- Related experience or education (e.g., courses in finance, business, economics, mathematics, or similar) demonstrating proficiency and/or strong interest in P&C insurance, Banking, Life Insurance, or other financial services.
- Demonstrated leadership ability through previous internships, employment, classes, extra-curricular or club activities
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $22 - $24. Interns will receive an intern stipend to assist with expenses.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the hourly range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual hourly rate for this role may vary by location.
